Photography is art, science and practice of creating lasting images by recording light
or electromagnetic radiation on
the other side, either chemically through a light-sensitive material like photographic film, or electronically via
an image sensor. Typically,
a lens is used to focus light reflected
or emitted from objects in a
real image on the light sensitive surface within a chamber during an exposure time. The
result in an electronic image
sensor is an electric charge to each pixel, which is processed electronically
and stored in a digital
image file for later viewing or processing. The result of a photographic emulsion is an invisible latent
image, which is then chemically developed
into a visible image, whether positive
or negative depending on the purpose
of the photographic material and method
of treatment. A negative image
on the film is traditionally used to
create a positive
image on a photographic base paper,
printing known or by using
an enlarger or
by contact printing.
